Butter On Bread

Butter on bread,
Spread thick or thin,
Topped with honey
Or sugar and cinn.
If goods aren’t plenty,
Take off the sweet.
Spread the topping
‘Til it’s thin as a sheet.
Beggar on brick,
Three seeds for a meal.
Diamonds crushed under
Society’s heel.
Begging while day,
Stealing come night.
Fighting to live,
Living to fight.
Low class worker,
Fifteen hours a day.
Drudgery overtime,
Having no say.
Walking the Trail With No End To See
Any alternative
To make him free
Soaring bald eagle,
Shot from the sky
Endangered family
With no tears to cry
Three small chicks
Destined to die
Majesty thrown down,
The question comes…
Why?

  1. I wrote this while thinking about the many injustices life throws upon us. Food for thought.
